revival fire, revival grace

I can’t start this any other way except to say one thing – REVIVAL IS COMING. It’s happening now, in you, in us, in the body, and in so many who have no idea yet. Revival is rising in the generations like no Revival us and the ones before us have seen before. I just wanted to sit down, get comfy, and type, type, type as much as I can from what God is telling me and what I just have to shout to the world.

I first heard the very concept of it when I showed up, feet dragging, at the new church God wanted me at – Abba’s House in Hixson. I did not want to be there – I just didn’t want change (ironic). The enemy fought hard to keep me from even stepping foot there. But, thanks to prayerful family and friends, I made it, I went to the youth group, and I fell in love. And standing under dazzling pink and blue lights, I sang and praised and God spoke one word, one of the first times I’d ever heard Him – revival. I didn’t know what to do with a random word, so with that, I tucked it away and kept on singing.

Months passed, and I met and fell in love with people that are now family. God pushed and stretched me far beyond anything I’d ever felt, and my views, prejudices, and sources of pride began to be beaten down. He took things away that left me open to new, beautiful growth, and somewhere in there I started going to worship nights.

So many people I met or know from those worship nights have been bringing me into agreement on this. I remember it as beginning at a worship night in Downtown Chattanooga, at Cadence Coffee Company. The band (Eleventh Hour Worship, check em out ;)) began prayer over our beautiful city, and that night began a series of connections, holy coincidences, and breathtaking God-nudges. When I look back, every worship night I’ve been to since then has prayed over Chattanooga. God began waking me up to the fact that I was surrounded by people that all craved this mysterious idea of Revival in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and our nation. He got me hooked – I wanted to know more. So, every prayer night, worship night, snippet, or mere mention of revival or change, I was there.

Once the term “revival” was in my head, I began noticing more and more the things God was pointing out. My pastor and my pastor’s father spoke on multiple occasions about Revival, declaring that the rainy season we’re currently in physically is an outpouring of new life for the season we’re in spiritually (let that sink in. BLESS that rain, y’all).

A little after, at a recent point in time, I was close to ditching the church home I’d found entirely, full to the brim with impatience and pride over the plan I thought God has for me. Like the astonishingly good God He is, He used both of them to speak the word “stay” into me. Looking back now, it was also meant to knock some humility into me (I’m still working on that part). In the end, though, I was reminded of the night I’d heard Him speak revival over the youth ministry – I remembered that something, whatever that looked like, was coming.

One night, during the Live Free and Fully Alive conference my church has been holding, Jentezen Franklin came and preached on – guess what! – Revival. The thing that had been on my mind all day, and I walked right into a room full of Spirit that ended in a dancin’ in the river altar call (the BEST kind, imo). Pastor Franklin spoke in Genesis 26 –

“So Isaac departed from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar and settled there. And Isaac dug again the wells of water that had been dug in the days of Abraham his father, which the Philistines had stopped after the death of Abraham. And he gave them the names that his father had given them.” – Genesis 26:17-18

The message spoke entirely of the Well (all holy, complete credit to the King of Kings, speaking, pastoral credit to Jentezen Franklin) and the absolute value of it. If you’re saved, you have a Well. If you’ve got a God-fearin’ grandmother, you’ve got a well. If you’ve got parents that just won’t stop praying, y’all, there’s a Well! And the prophets, martyrs, patriarchs, and matriarchs of the ages dug so many wells. Faith, worship, and sacrifice, to name a few Pastor Franklin touched on.

But the enemy knows those Wells exist too. And, just like the Philistines further in the chapter (Gen 26:15), he’s waiting to fill the Wells people died for with dirt, filth, and damaging lies. He’s waiting to demolish families, kill faith, and bring the Gospel into the dust.

Revival is needed because there’s a Well. There’s a Well of faith, salvation, worship, sacrifice, and every holy thing under God’s stunning sun, and the enemy is gunning for it with everything he is. Luckily, he’s predictable. Luckily, he never thinks to change his strategy. And luckily, even if he did, God is speaking REVIVAL. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING can stand in the way of that.

Now is the time to draw close to the Spirit. Now is the time to walk listening for His voice. Now – not tomorrow, not next week, not later in any way – is the time to take the call to die seriously. We are at WAR. There is no nice way to put it, and if there is, I’m not using it. Because when we answer this call to arms, when we accept His call of Revival and live like it, the enemy is knocked back ten feet deeper in the pit of Hell he already dug for himself. The ultimate victory and war is already won, but it’s up to us to make a change around us.

That said, I want to share the things God has spoken to me over this. I got together with other believers one afternoon, and our prayer together brought something incredible bubbling up in me – something wanting to share, something that could finally hear God’s voice, and something willing to stake my entire life on this. That afternoon, God spoke four words to me –

1) UNAFRAID – This generation – the youth, the college-age – will rise up and be absolutely fearless in the face of what’s coming. There’s a new target on the back of the modern day, but the Spirit is providing supernatural courage in the face of it, to fight it and thrive despite it.
2) ROYALTY – This generation and the upcoming have a specific anointing to bring about the Spirit’s will in this city. They are treasured beyond belief, and in their journeys to figure out their identities, God is crowning them and calling them Royalty, precious and perfect in His eyes in order to encourage them and define them.
3) PURE – He is purifying this generation is a wave of His Spirit Fire. As this Revival builds, thousands upon thousands will be washed white as snow, and it’s going to change countless hearts, and specifically how we look at, see, and value each other, physically and emotionally.
4) REVOLUTIONARIES – This ties it all together – this is the Revival, the change, the fire that is rising up. There is an army rising up – and some don’t even know it yet. But God is going to give them the bravery that comes with seeing injustice, standing up, and doing something about it in the name of Christ Jesus.

My point in writing this isn’t just to ramble about my life, but my heart, my thoughts, and my prayers. Because I feel an urgency – I feel a need to tell someone about this, to tell anyone, to tell everyone. We’re fighting and screaming at each other over what and who to vote for, and in the end we’re just sojourners in the middle of Babylon, not meant to be here for long, only meant to love, love, LOVE until the name of Jesus is on the lips of everyone around us. And if we ask for the Spirit, God gives it, and when we receive that, something is going to shake the very foundations we’re standing on.

My final thought, for now, was something God spoke to me the other morning. I happened to be reading in Matthew, and it said this –

“Your lives are like salt among the people. But if you, like salt, become bland, how can your ‘saltiness’ be restored? Flavorless salt is good for nothing and will be thrown out and trampled on by others. “Your lives light up the world. Let others see your light from a distance, for how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop? And who would light a lamp and then hide it in an obscure place? Instead, it’s placed where everyone in the house can benefit from its light. So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that the commendable things you do will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13-16

God has said our faith is bland, tasteless, and lifeless. It’s without sensation in our mouths and in the ears of the people that hear us. When He brings this Revival, this is going to change. We’re going to explode into a instantaneous transformation that takes us from ash in the mouths of the lost to colorful, flavorful sensation to all who hear and taste it. The narrative of this dimension is going to change, because we’re going to start being known for our Love, for our Jesus, and from that – from that, LIGHT is going to shine forth. Less and less will be afraid to share their light. Countless talents and gifts will be mingling with manifestations of the Spirit, signs, and wonders. It’s going to be too much for people to turn away from, or to ignore, and that’s going to begin EVERYTHING that is coming.

And oh goodness gracious, y’all – IT’S COMING!
